qEEG Brain Mapping in Rancho Santa Fe, CA

When focus, sleep or mood changes are hard to pin down, a brain map adds measured data to your exam. It shows how your brainwaves behave and helps set up any training that follows.

Overview

Maybe you have felt foggy since a head injury, or stress has worn down your focus and sleep. The symptoms are real, but they are hard to measure.

A qEEG brain map records the brain's electrical activity and compares its patterns, giving us numbers to set beside your history and exam.

It is part of the evaluation behind our neurofeedback and brain mapping services in Rancho Santa Fe.

What it is

What is qEEG brain mapping?

qEEG brain mapping is a computer analysis of an EEG, a recording of the brain's electrical activity. Sensors on the scalp collect the signals, and software turns them into color maps and numbers that show the strength and spread of different brainwave frequencies.

How it works

  1. A cap with sensors rests on your scalp while you sit still.

  2. You relax with your eyes open, then closed, as the EEG records.

  3. Software builds the maps, and we review them with your exam.

What it helps with

  • Focus or memory problems after a concussion or brain injury
  • Thinking changes after a stroke
  • Stress, sleep or emotional regulation concerns
  • Planning neurofeedback targets

When it is not the right tool

  • Confirming a concussion, stroke or any condition on its own
  • Replacing an MRI or CT scan when your physician needs one
  • Emergency symptoms, which need urgent care

The re-check

When a repeat map is useful, we record it the same way and compare. If your map and your symptoms tell different stories, we trust the whole picture, not the map alone.

How is a brain map different from an MRI?

An MRI or CT scan shows the structure of the brain. A qEEG shows how electrical activity was spread across the brain during the recording, so it answers a different question and never replaces imaging your physician orders.

Conditions

Goals qEEG brain mapping can support

We may add a brain map to your evaluation when these conditions affect focus, sleep, mood or thinking speed.

Why here

Why qEEG brain mapping at True Performance

  • Numbers beside your symptoms

A map measures the strength, spread and timing of your brainwaves. We read it with your exam, balance tests and history, so the plan rests on more than one source.

  • A clear picture you can see

Color maps make the findings easy to walk through together, and they give a baseline to compare against later.

  • Targets for neurofeedback

When neurofeedback fits, your map helps choose where training starts.

Other options

Compare your options

A brain map is not the only way to understand focus or mood problems. Symptom questionnaires, thinking tests and your physician's exam are often enough, and imaging is the right test when a structural problem is suspected. We use qEEG when measured brainwave data will change the plan.

Is it for you

Is qEEG brain mapping right for you?

A good fit if

  • Your symptoms affect work, school or sleep
  • You are considering neurofeedback
  • You can sit still for short recording periods

We check first if

  • You have a seizure disorder
  • You have a scalp wound or skin condition
  • You recently started or changed a medicine that affects the brain

If the second list applies, tell us on your intro call so we can plan the recording.

Your visits

What to expect

  1. A 15-minute intro call

A complimentary call about your symptoms and goals.

  2. Your comprehensive exam

About 90 minutes, plus data and history gathering, which includes the qEEG recording.

  3. The recording

We fit the sensor cap, then you rest with eyes open and closed. Blinking and moving can blur the data, so we coach you through it.

  4. Your results

We go through the maps with you and explain how they shape your plan.

For how the recording itself works, see Cleveland Clinic's guide to the EEG.

Cost

Cost and insurance

Cost depends on what your exam includes and whether the map leads to a training plan. We explain it before you commit.

What your cost depends on

  1. Whether the map is part of a full evaluation
  2. Whether repeat maps are needed later
  3. Whether neurofeedback or other services follow

Ask us about cost and payment on your intro call.

Questions

qEEG brain mapping questions

Ask us: (858) 285-0073

What is qEEG brain mapping used for?

It measures brainwave activity and shows it as maps and numbers. We use it to set a baseline, plan neurofeedback and add context to your exam.

Does qEEG brain mapping hurt?

No. The sensors sit on your scalp with a gel or paste and only record. Nothing is sent into your brain, and there is no radiation or enclosed scanner.

Can a brain map show that I have ADHD or a concussion?

No. Similar patterns can have different causes, so a map never answers that on its own. Your physician makes that call, and we read the map with your whole exam.

Does insurance cover qEEG brain mapping?

We explain cost and payment options on your intro call, before you book an exam. What is included depends on your evaluation.

How should I prepare for the recording?

Come with clean, dry hair and no heavy hair products. Tell us about any medicines you take, since some can affect brainwave activity.
