Biofeedback Therapist in Rancho Santa Fe, CA

Scattered focus, a mind that will not settle or poor sleep can follow an injury or years of stress. We measure how your brain is working, then train steadier patterns with neurofeedback.

The center

Biofeedback is training that shows you a live signal from your own body, so you can learn to change it. At True Performance in Rancho Santa Fe, the main form is neurofeedback, which uses your brainwaves and a qEEG brain map. Heart rate variability training can be added. It supports focus, stress, sleep and thinking after a brain injury.

Your plan starts with an exam led by Dr. Jeff McWhorter, D.C., and day-to-day training is run by our neurofeedback team.

This work is one part of our North County sports medicine clinic, next to brain rehab and performance care.

qEEG Brain Mapping

A qEEG brain map is a computer analysis of an EEG, a recording of your brain's electrical activity. You sit still in a sensor cap, eyes open and then closed, while software turns the signals into color maps and numbers.

The map adds data to your exam and helps choose where neurofeedback starts. It is one input, never the whole answer. See what a brain map recording involves.

These are the concerns we see most in this part of the clinic. Each page explains how focus, attention and self-regulation training can fit alongside the care you already have.

How it works

How care works here

  1. We measure first

Your first visit is about 90 minutes, plus data and history gathering, which can include a qEEG recording.

  2. Your map sets the targets

We read the map with your symptoms and history, then set the training targets for your goals.

  3. We re-check and adjust

We repeat symptom checks and, when useful, the brain map. If nothing is changing, we adjust the protocol or tell you plainly.

Questions

Questions about the biofeedback therapist

Ask us: (858) 285-0073

What is the difference between biofeedback and neurofeedback?

Biofeedback trains you with a live signal from your body, such as heart rate, breathing or muscle tension. Neurofeedback is the type that uses your brainwaves. Most programs here are neurofeedback, and heart rate variability training can be added.

Who runs the training sessions?

Lex Merrifield, our Neurofeedback Director, runs the day-to-day training program, and your plan starts with an exam led by Dr. Jeff McWhorter, D.C. We do not provide psychotherapy or counseling, and we coordinate with the clinicians who do.

Do I need a brain map before neurofeedback?

Often, yes. A qEEG map recorded during your first visit helps set where training starts. Your symptoms and your response to each session shape the targets over time.

Can neurofeedback replace medication or counseling?

No. It is a drug-free training approach that works alongside the care your physician or counselor provides. If you take medicine for focus, mood or sleep, keep following your prescriber's plan.

How much does a neurofeedback program cost?

Cost depends on whether a brain map is part of your plan, how many sessions you need, and whether you train in the clinic or at home. We explain it on your complimentary intro call, before you commit.
