Sports Rehab & Performance Care

Whether you want a faster first step or you are working back from an injury, we start by measuring how you move, see and react. Then we train what the numbers show.

The center

Sports rehab and performance care at True Performance is chiropractic- and rehabilitation-led care for athletes. It covers two needs in one plan: rehab after sprains, strains and overuse injuries, and training for the brain side of sport, such as reaction time, visual awareness and balance. Every plan starts with an exam and is coordinated with your physician and coaches.

Some athletes come to us hurt. Others come healthy and want an edge. Most need a little of both, so injury rehab, performance training and cognitive training share one team.

This care is one part of our Rancho Santa Fe clinic for athletes and active adults.

Cognitive Training

DynaVision cognitive training puts your reaction time on a wall of lights. You hit each lit button as fast as you can, often while reading numbers, and the board scores every run.

It suits athletes who see the play a split second late, and people working on focus after an injury. It is available at our Rancho Santa Fe office only. See how DynaVision reaction drills scored on every run work.

How it works

How care works here

  1. We set your baseline

Your first visit is about 90 minutes, plus data and history gathering. We test vision, balance, reaction time, coordination and how you move.

  2. The numbers shape the plan

Your results, sport and position set the order: rehab first, training first or both together. Training load builds step by step.

  3. We re-test and adjust

We repeat the key measures as you go, so you see change against your own starting point. Each result sets the next block.

The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons notes that many soft-tissue injuries happen when people suddenly increase how long, how hard or how often they train.

Why choose True Performance

Dr. Jeff McWhorter, D.C., a chiropractor whose practice focuses on functional neurology, concussion rehabilitation and performance, plans athlete care around movement, balance and timing. Before founding True Performance in Rancho Santa Fe, Dr. McWhorter served as a chiropractic consultant to the Denver Broncos, working with elite athletes to improve recovery and performance.

Injury rehab, reaction training and recovery care sit under one roof, in one plan. Athlete care also connects with brain rehab, wellness and recovery care in one clinic.

Questions

Questions about the sports medicine clinic

Ask us: (858) 285-0073

Do I have to be a professional athlete to come here?

No. We work with athletes of all ages, from student athletes to weekend competitors, active adults and professionals. For anyone under 18, a parent takes part in the evaluation and gives written consent. Your plan is built from your exam and your sport, not your level.

Should I start with injury rehab or performance training?

You do not need to choose. Your exam shows whether an injury needs to settle first or whether training can start now. Some athletes move from rehab into performance work within the same plan.

How do you measure progress?

We compare you with your own baseline. Our reaction and motion tools record accuracy and timing on every run, and we repeat balance, reaction and movement tests as you go.

Do you offer pre-season baseline tests for student athletes?

Yes. Baseline concussion testing is part of our rehabilitation center, and the appointment takes about 10 to 15 minutes. If a head injury happens later, a re-test is compared with that record, and we work as part of the athlete's return-to-play team. Written clearance comes from a licensed health care provider.

How much does athlete care cost?

It depends on what your exam finds, how many visits you need and whether rehab, training or both are in the plan. We go through cost on your complimentary 15-minute intro call, before you book an exam.
