Acute pain
A strain, fall or sports injury can leave an area too sore to touch. We look at what happened and which movements hurt, then decide whether PEMF fits early care for a new injury or strain.
When pain limits how you move, train or sleep, you want options that do not add strain. PEMF therapy sends gentle pulses through an applicator placed near the sore area, with no needles and no pressure.
Overview
Maybe a strain from last weekend still catches every time you reach. Maybe a sore knee or back has hung on for months, and pushing on it only makes it angrier.
PEMF therapy works without needles, incisions or forceful movement, so it can reach a sensitive area without adding pressure. We decide where it goes, and whether it belongs in your plan at all, after an exam.
It is one of the options our Rancho Santa Fe pain control clinic uses alongside hands-on care and rehab.

What it is
PEMF, short for pulsed electromagnetic field, therapy uses a device that sends brief electromagnetic pulses through an applicator placed near a sore area. The pulses switch on and off quickly and can create small electrical currents in the nearby tissue. There are no needles and nothing presses on you.

Your exam decides where the applicator goes and what the session is for.
We choose the frequency, strength and length of the pulses for that area.
You rest while the device runs, and we check your comfort throughout.
The re-check
At each follow-up we ask what changed between sessions. If PEMF has no clear effect, we change the plan or drop it.
PEMF devices can change the frequency, strength, pulse shape and session length. We match the available settings to the body area, your exam findings and your comfort, so each session has one clear job.
Conditions
We consider PEMF when your exam shows a clear role for it, most often with these conditions.
A strain, fall or sports injury can leave an area too sore to touch. We look at what happened and which movements hurt, then decide whether PEMF fits early care for a new injury or strain.
When pain lasts, it starts to affect sleep, focus and exercise. PEMF can be one part of long-term pain management, never the whole plan.
Placement follows your mobility and past injuries when knees, hips or other joints hurt.
We ask when the soreness shows up before adding PEMF to recovery for sore, tight muscles.
Why here
The applicator sits near the area, with no incisions, no joint manipulation and no forceful movement. That makes it an option when a spot is too sore for hands-on work.
PEMF can be scheduled with chiropractic care, corrective exercise or rehab, and each part has its own job.
We ask what changed between visits and adjust the schedule to match.
Other options
PEMF is one of several ways to manage pain. Exercise, chiropractic care, physical therapy and your physician's medical care all help many people, and some problems need imaging first. We suggest PEMF when your exam shows it can support that work.
Is it for you
If the second list applies, we review your health history, and check with your physician where needed, before any session.
Your visits
A complimentary call about your pain and what you want to get back to.
About 90 minutes, plus data and history gathering. We check movement, joint and muscle function, and your health history.
We confirm the area, place the applicator and start the device. You may feel mild pulsing or very little.
At follow-up visits we review your response and adjust the schedule or the services around it.
Cost
Cost depends on your exam findings and how many sessions your plan includes. We explain it before you commit.

PEMF sessions take place at our Rancho Santa Fe office: 18029 Calle Ambiente, Suite 507, in Cielo Village. We are about two miles from Lake Hodges, a short drive from Rancho Bernardo, Carmel Valley and Del Mar.
The first step
We confirm the area and explain what to expect. The applicator goes near that area, and the device delivers pulses while we check your comfort.
PEMF is generally considered safe for many people with the right screening and supervision. We ask about pregnancy, seizures, medication patches and implanted or wearable medical devices before any session.
It depends on the problem, how long you have had it and what else is in your plan. We review your response and adjust the schedule as you go.
